RCTC Institutional Survey Research Guidelines and Procedure

Background

The following survey research guidelines will be followed to facilitate timely, accurate, and relevant research for all interested stakeholders. A unified, consistent survey strategy carries the following advantages for the college and its stakeholders:

  1. Elimination of overlapping efforts
  2. Integration of processes
  3. Elimination of survey fatigue
  4. Consistent expertise and branding

Statement of Procedure

  1. Coordination.
All surveys with 65 or more anticipated responses shall be coordinated through the Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IE&P) department.
  2. Identification of need and request timeline.
    1. When a unit identifies the need for a survey, a request shall be made through the IE&P online request form in TDX.
    2. The request should be made 60 days prior to when the survey shall be distributed.
  3. Survey creation and distribution.
After consultation and drafting with IE&P, the survey is loaded into the College’s contracted survey system and made ready for distribution.
  4. Distribution of results.
Raw survey results are not distributed unless directed by a member of the President’s cabinet. If distributed, any identifying information will be redacted.
  5. Survey retention.  IE&P will retain all surveys and their associated results.

Exemptions

  1. Surveys solely seeking feedback on events are exempt from this procedure.
  2. Faculty surveying students currently enrolled in the faculty member’s assigned sections with a survey instrument unique to the faculty member are exempt from this procedure.
